James Marlow, CEO of Radiance Solar Named Professional of the Year by Technology Association of Georgia Smart Energy Society
James Marlow, CEO of Radiance Solar, was named Professional of the Year by The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) Smart Energy Society at the organization’s annual dinner and awards celebration on Jan. 17 on the Georgia Tech campus. Solar manufacturer Suniva was named Company of the Year, a category in which Radiance Solar was also a finalist.
“Our TAG Smart Energy professional and company of the year demonstrate the leadership qualities that advance the economic, energy efficiency and innovation benefits of the smart energy economy in our region,” said Bob Miller, chairman of the group and Client Unit Director, Industrial Sector – Southeast for IBM. “We’re proud of James and Suniva, as well as all nominees and finalists for helping Georgia lead in smart energy technologies, solutions and growth.”
Marlow was recognized for founding and leading the company's development over the past five years, making his entrepreneurial dream a reality. Radiance Solar's success under Marlow included:
- Installed more than 3.5 MW of solar PV -- some of the largest solar thermal systems in the southeast
- Completion of more than 100 projects, including multiple projects for some of the leading businesses and institutions in our region such as Cox, IBG, Georgia Tech, and Electric Cities of Georgia
- Built seven non-profit projects including The Atlanta Community Foodbank, The Etowah River Alliance and Habitat for Humanity
- Helped rally support for programs like Georgia Power's 210 MW Advanced Solar Initiative
Suniva, Inc. Named Company of the Year
Suniva, Inc., a Norcross-based solar manufacturer that designs and manufactures high-efficiency, high-quality crystalline photovoltaic (PV) products, was named Company of the Year. The company earned its recognition from TAG Smart Energy by: achieving record sales growth including new market success in Mexico and Caribbean; driving innovation with new services and products for on and off grid systems such as Hybrid Energy System, which includes a PV2EV capability, Microgrid PV systems designed, installed and commissioned, and packaged solutions of entire PV solar farms for utility and commercial clients. One Suniva project in the Atlanta area is the Clough Commons sustainable building.
Miller said that criteria for nominees, finalists and winners included: innovation in technology or business which has accelerated the adoption of Smart Energy in Georgia or worldwide; demonstrated “thought leadership” which has clearly set the direction of Smart Energy in Georgia and worldwide; developed Smart Energy products/systems/services which have increased Georgia’s exports; showed business leadership and innovation which have created new job opportunities in Georgia; developed educational or marketing programs which have increased public awareness to the importance of making Smart Energy a reality.
