The Pro-Mozart Society of Atlanta presents Caroline Thomas in concert Sunday
World-renowned soprano Caroline Thomas is being presented in concert by the Pro-Mozart Society of Atlanta (www.MozartAtlanta.com) Sunday, November 18, at 3 p.m. The concert will be in the sanctuary of Peachtree Christian Church (1580 Peachtree Street, NW, Atlanta), followed by a meet-the-artists reception in the church’s Stew Wood Hall.
Ms. Thomas will be assisted by soprano Rhonda Hambright and accompanied by pianist Randy Elkins. The event is free to Pro-Mozart members and $15 for non-members.
The previous day, Saturday, November 17, at 10 a.m., Pro-Mozart Atlanta is presenting Ms. Thomas (again with Mr. Elkins) in a Master Class for university students of voice and their professors. The limited seating is open to the public and is free of charge. The event will be in the Lovett School Chorus Room (4075 Paces Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta).
In addition to holding at least five concerts annually, Pro-Mozart Atlanta helps classical musicians improve their skills by providing scholarships. The organization’s scholarships are awarded to talented and deserving classical musicians who might otherwise not have the means or the opportunity to study with the exceptional instructors that are available at the prestigious Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Austria.
Caroline Thomas resides in Detmar, Germany. Since 2002 she has had a full professorship at the Hochschule fűr Musik in Detmold, Germany. Educated in New York City, she earned her Master of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and attended the American Opera Center at the Juilliard School Lincoln Center. She has spent the last 15 years mostly in Europe, singing leading roles in operas by Wagner, Verdi, Mozart, Strauss and Puccini.
Rhonda Hambright is a cum laude graduate of Wesleyan College with a degree in voice. Based in St. Simons Island, Georgia, she is in demand regionally as a soprano soloist, pianist, voice teacher and choral conductor. Her next venue will be in Germany, where she will present a concert of American spirituals and German lieder.
