10th & Piedmont exterior design - like it or not?
New restaurant readying for a 2012 opening in the former Outwrite Bookstore space to feature window/doors with the capability of sliding all the way open.

Having announced last week that their new restaurant, “10th & Piedmont,” will be opening in December, owners Sean and Gilbert Yeremyan have posted a few artist renderings of what the former Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse space will look like from the outside.
The teams of Goodrowe ǀ Hobby, EarthStation Architecture and Structor Group are designing the space for the Yeremyan brothers, who also own and operate the adjoining Gilbert’s Café & Bar, as well as HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern across from Ansley Mall.
10th & Piedmont will be located at 991 Piedmont Ave., and will be serving seasonally inspired dishes, creatively portioned into small bites for easy sharing. Read more about it here.
As for the exterior design, the window/doors will have the capability to be opened completely on the Piedmont side from left to right, and on 10th Street side from right to left in an effort to create an open-air feeling for the new restaurant.

Looks like a Mcdonalds in France!! ... although I love the idea of another restaurant within walking distance - I wish we would get a new concept, not just an expanded Gilberts.

Read the article, it's not an expanded Gilbert's. Different concept and definitel different menu. "Serving seasonally inspired dishes, creatively portioned into small bites for easy sharing, 10th & Piedmont’s Executive Chef Brett Ring will use multi-cultural flavors and organic ingredients to execute global cuisine with a regional, Southern influence."

Looks terrific, especially compared to how ratty it was before as Rafshoon let the physical facility deteriorate during his occupancy. Now all four corners of tenth and piedmont will look fresh and not ghetto.

Um, Outwrite was a tenant, not owner. And by the way, the exterior still looked a lot better this spring even than when Outwrite took over this space and made improvements.

Some awesome observation - when I saw it I thought McDonalds... That's the exact modern look in the UK. Also we all love together and the rainbow flag just screams come on in if you're gay, so yeah it looks gay plus the plants outside 5napkin was great more is better not just a parking lot (it's not suppose to be linked to Gilberts)

I love the design but don't care for the gay flag. I'm a straight man and I have no problem with gays. I support gay marriage. If that's what you want to do then do it and be happy cause it's not my life. I even have friends and family who are gay. My problem is that it's a turn off for those who aren't gay to come to the restuarant to eat. If you have a book store that sells materials for gays only then that's fine. But unless the place is selling food for gays only then there is no need for the flag. The area is already known as a gay community so what's the point of the flag? Plus there are a lot of people who may be straight and feel uncomfortable walking out of a place with a big flag that represents the gay community. Again it's not about the people cause I would go into a place with a big rebel flag on the building. I just think if you open a business for everyone then you shouldn't have anything that may someone feel uncomfortable trying your food.

Remember that tiny little civil issue, that caused that little "disagreement" between the South and the North? A Rebel flag is very offensive to many of us in Midtown. There is no way to compare, with a gay rainbow flag, which is about inclusiveness and celebrating diversity. "All the colors under the rainbow".... no one is excluded. All are welcome. Many of my Midtown straight friends actually prefer to go someplace with a gay flag, they find the atmosphere more inclusive. People with an issue over it, have the right to not patronize. Gilbert and Sean deserve praise for their convictions! Thanks guys.

I did a silent cheer as I drove to work yesterday and saw the tatty blue awnings and so faded it was pastel rainbow flag coming down. This corner of Midtown has been so vibrant for so long thanks in large part to Outwrite and this old building needed a new lease on life and a new flag to reflect what Midtown has always been - colorful. Nice of the Gilbert's guys to give a nod to the building's past by replacing the flag instead of scrubbing every bit of gay off like 5 Napkins tried and spectacularly failed to do. Anyone who ever set foot in Big Red Tomato would never believe Campagnolo is the same space, and Outwrite needs that kind of update - crisp paint, polished floors, more windows. And maybe 10th & Piedmont or the new 10 across the street will bring back the author readings Outwrite hosted to mix a little culture in with the food and fun.
