5 Seasons BrewMaster Pours It Well

Crawford Moran recently selected as the top brewer in the metro Atlanta/Athens craft brewing scene by StarChefs and received their Artisan Brewer award.

BrewMaster Crawford Moran knows beer. But does he know speed?

The co-owner for 5 Seasons Westside and 5 Seasons North was recently selected as the top brewer in the metro Atlanta/Athens craft brewing scene by StarChefs and received their Artisan Brewer award.

The Artisan Brewer award is given to the individual brewer in the region who is creating the best, most unique, highest quality beers in the craft-brewing scene. A gala and awards ceremony was held last month at the Goat Farm to honor and recognize the top chefs, top brewer, top barista and top mixologist selected as Atlanta’s Rising Stars.

Moran will be competing for a top prize again Thursday, but this time in an Olympic-inspired sprint race challenge against a 5 Seasons employee who ran in the 2008 Beijing Games. Former Clemson sprinter Cowin Mills ran a leg of the 4x100 relay for his home country of Trinidad & Tobago.

The race is scheduled to begin around 6 p.m. at 5 Westside, the restaurant and brewery that features organic ingredients from local farms, and brews all of its own beer on site in small batches. It's located at 1000 Marietta Street.

Moran has all but guaranteed victory, posting that his friend and opponent has “never seen what I can do. The tortoise beat the hare. Remember that, my friends.”

In 2007, Moran’s partner, David Larkworthy, Executive Chef and co-owner at 5 Seasons was also recognized by StarChefs and was awarded the Sustainability Award. That award recognized Larkworthy’s unique approach to his menus, his outstanding achievements as Executive Chef of Five Seasons and honors his commitment and passion for his outstanding work in the kitchen.

5 Seasons is the only establishment in the country where both the Chef and the Brewer have received such accolades. Said Moran, “It is a nice honor, especially receiving the brewing award along side so many unbelievable chefs. It’s great to see how far beer has come in the eyes of the food world. What is so inspiring and unique to 5 Seasons is how interrelated our beer and our food is. It is a joy to practice my craft and pair my beers with Chef Dave’s food every single day.”
