Arrest made in October murder of man on Spring Street

Twenty-year-old male charged with the shooting death of Newnan man last month in Midtown.

Atlanta police have arrested and charged a man with the murder of another man near a Midtown nightclub in early October.

Orlando Hawkins, 20, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Oct. 6 shooting death of Morie Jermicheal Brooks, 24, of Newnan. According to police spokesperson Kim Jones, Brooks had gotten into a verbal altercation with three males inside the QUAD nightclub located at 714 Spring Street.

Later, as Brooks and others left the club shortly after 4 a.m. and began walking south on Spring, a dark vehicle pulled up behind the group.

Hawkins allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot twice, striking Brooks in the back and fatally wounding him near 688 Spring Street.

Upon his arrest, Hawkins was transported to the Fulton County Jail.

also made an arrest on the man killed in his car at Ponce and Moreland- drug deal gone bad. So maybe there is hope for an arrest in the Lee Lowery killing

More to the point than pointing out the obvious regarding race, gender and age, the man killed was from Newnan. Where does the murderer hail from -?

The APD has informed us that they are "actively pursuing leads" in the Ford Factory Lofts murder earlier this month, but they do not have any information they can release at this time. We we continue to follow this and keep our readers updated. With regards to the Spring Street incident, the APD also doesn't have information as to where Orlando Hawkins is from, nor does Fulton County Jail records indicate.
