Atlanta Police Plan No Extra Security for 'Dark Knight'

An Atlanta Police Department spokesman said Friday morning the department has no plans for extra security at movie theaters in the wake of the .

"At this time, we are not aware of any ongoing or immediate threats to movie theaters," spokesman Carlos Campos said in an e-mail. "We are in constant contact with the FBI, and if that changes we would immediately act to notify theater owners and patrons and provide extra security."

"Dark Knight" — — is showing at and at where almost 40 daily screenings are scheduled.

Texas-based Cinemark Holdings owns the Century 16 Aurora where the shootings took place. 

"Cinemark is deeply saddened about this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and loved ones, our employees, and the Aurora community," the company said in a statement. "We are grateful for the quick and professional reaction of all local law enforcement and emergency responders," the company continued. "Cinemark is working closely with the Aurora Police Department and local law enforcement."

Regal Entertainment Group released a statement late Friday morning:

We are profoundly saddened by the tragedy that occurred at a Denver area theatre and are concerned for the victims and their families. The security and safety of our guests and staff is always our number one priority. As is our custom, we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our security needs as necessary. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

On its Facebook page, Midtown Art Cinema made no mention of the incident or any possible change in routine. A spokesperson for the movie theater was unreachable at press time.
