BGR: The Burger Joint coming to Atlantic Station

New restaurant expected to be open by early summer.

Not trying to ham it up, but no joke, another burger joint is heading our way.

Brian Dralle, who in 2011 opened up Which Wich Superior Sandwiches at Atlantic Station, has confirmed to Midtown Patch that he will open a BGR: The Burger Joint in the former Doc Green’s space, located at 264 19th street in the mixed-use development project.

Despite the recent onslaught of new burger restaurants opening in metro Atlanta, Dralle said the hope is to have BGR opened by mid-June.

“Atlantic Station doesn’t have a simple, fun burger concept, so we think it’s a great fit,’’ Dralle said.

The Virginia-based chain has 18 locations nationally with several more set to open in 2012. This will be the first BGR in Georgia.

According to its website, BGR burgers are made of “prime, dry-aged, all natural, hormone free, grain-fed” beef and come in a variety of sizes, including a 15-pound monster that the house will pick up the near $80 cost if one person can finish.

But it’s not all beef as there are alternative proteins offered such as turkey, lamb, tuna and lobster. There’s a veggie, too, and four varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches.

Side items include sweet potato and Yukon Gold fries, which can be topped with rosemary, Parmesan or roasted garlic, along with Vidalia onion rings and grilled asparagus spears.

Fountain soda, milkshakes, floats, beer and wine are among the beverage options. A lunch combo of a burger, fries and soda will run around nine bucks.

But it will come with a bit of fun, too, as BGR likes to serve up its food with a bit of nostalgia. Album covers from the likes of U2, Prince and the Rolling Stones adorn to walls of BGR locations. And the table tops are fun mosaics in tribute to yesteryear favorites such Bazooka bubble gum labels, Pop Rocks and classic MTV.

“Subconsciously, the décor brings customers back to place where they feel comfortable,’’ said Dralle, who indicated the new restaurant will employ close to 20 people.

The arrival of BGR is just another step in the “remerchandising” of Atlantic Station following North American Properties purchase of the retail shops and restaurant portion of the development in late 2010. Ron Pfohl, director of leasing for North American Properties told Atlantic Station's Blogspot earlier this month that, “remerchandising is the process of bringing in a tenant mix that appeals to intown shoppers.”

Since the beginning of last year, Atlantic Station has secured leases with Creative Loafing, Yardhouse, Meehan’s Public House, Yogli Mogli, Sole Shoes and Accessories, Kate’s, Pinkheart, K-la and Fab’rik.

It is also is looking to add a restaurant with rooftop dining at the FOX Sports Grill location when that approximately 19,000-square-foot restaurant closes in early April.
