Celebrate a Century of Dancing Arthur Murray Style
A quick glance at where to ditch those mid-week Midtown blues.
Happy hump day, Midtown. Let’s check what’s on the social calendar this Wednesday…and a couple of Thursday items of interest, too.
This energetic and visual event will be commemorating 100 years of dancing Murray, who had his first dance studio in the Grand Ballroom of the Georgian Terrace. April 4 is the founder’s birthday, and ballroom dancing enthusiasts worldwide will be commemorating the beginning of the career that quite possibly remains the most iconic name in ballroom dancing.
Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall will be presenting a proclamation from the city and the Atlanta feed-in for a global video feed will occur at 7:45 p.m.
Arthur Murray International will be linking celebrations through video feed from many of the more than 250 locations worldwide where it has franchise operations. The global dance party will begin in Australia at 4 a.m. EDT, and is an ambitious modern-day equivalent of another Arthur Murray event at Georgia Tech, when he organized the first “radio dance.” Students danced on the roof of the Capitol City Club to a broadcast of “Ramblin’ Wreck” being played by an orchestra on the Georgia Tech campus in 1920.
In addition to music and dancing, the evening will feature expert demonstration dances from the decades since Arthur Murray began his career. There will also be a one-dance competition that Sharon Story, dean of the Centre for Dance Education at the Atlanta Ballet, will be judging. See here for more information.
Tails will be a’ waggin’ at Mutts n’ Martinis on the Living Room patio at W Atlanta – Midtown on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m. Grab your pups and head to the patio as Mutts n’ Martinis will feature Atlanta’s own Poochsicles & Bark Bites for the pups and $5 Salty Dog Martinis for the peeps. Friends from Southern Animal Rescue will be onsite and ready to paw-ty in an effort to raise awareness and funds for less fortunate pups. See here for more information.
‘Wellness Wednesdays’ begins tonight at Atlantic Station. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., Central Park will be the site for an outdoor fitness experience including free classes taught by exhale instructors. Get healthy, centered, and energized with varied core fusion and yoga classes plus enjoy:

STK and Jeffrey Atlanta will be teaming up for STK and Stilettos on Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. Signature STK cocktails including the Cucumber Stiletto Cocktail will be served and every drink order is an entry to win a $500 gift card from Jeffrey.
Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m., Suite Spot, located at 1465 Chattahoochee Avenue in West Midtown, will celebrate the launch of its Borgias Unveiled window installation with fine wine, Italian hors d'oeuvres, grand design and the screening of the first episode of season two of Showtime's hit series, The Borgias.
Suite Spot worked with HHR interiors to create some of the sets for The Borgias and the linens created for the show are now available at the linen and furnishings store. Suite Spot is also representing Atlanta in a 10-city contest to determine which designer has created the best Borgias-themed display window.
As part of The Borgias Unveiled project, Showtime and Vintage and Modern (V&M) are giving away a trip to Venice, including round-trip airfare courtesy of Delta Airlines, five nights at the Westin Europa & Regina, a private tour of the Monte Del Fra winery and a $5,000 gift card for Borgias-inspired decor at V&M. To win, vote for your favorite window by April 19 and you'll be entered.
On Thursday, Yoga Rave will be held at the Fox Theater’s Egyptian Ballroom from 7 to 11 p.m. Yoga Rave is a party where the body responds only to the stimulation of music, yoga & meditation. The event will feature a music performance by The So What Project!, a duo from Argentina currently touring the United States. Yoga Rave and The So What Project are part of a worldwide campaign for a stress-free, violence-free society, spearheaded by The Art of Living Foundation founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Yoga Rave is a national new wave of consciousness, energy and fun that is smoke-free, alcohol-free and drug-free. The funds raised from this concert will go towards the YES! for Schools project. Tickets can be purchased here.
Also on Thursday, explore Atlanta Blooms in the cool of a spring evening during Blooms & Bubbly from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Stroll pathways lined with thousands of tulip, hyacinth, azalea, redbud and dogwood blooms while sipping champagne, wine or beer from cash bars.
Meet Caterina Candoni De Zan of Italy’s Candoni Family Winery as well as metal artist Andrew T. Crawford, the creator of a dozen Golden Gates sculptures displayed throughout the garden.
