Chick-fil-A: term "fruitcake" was about actual fruitcake

The chicken fast food chain says the term was not meant to be anti-gay

The Chick-fil-A on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Chamblee is making national headlines for one of its fliers, which reads, "Only a fruitcake wouldn't love our party trays."

The blog, Towleroad, first posted the flier late last week after one of the blog's Twitter followers tweeted it.

On the heels of this summer's controversy about Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy's statements about traditional marriage and the national spotlight on the company's donations to organizations devoted to heterosexual-only lifestyles, the "fruitcake" term has caused quite a stir.

Chick-fil-A says the term "fruitcake" was about an actual fruitcake.

The restaurant chain's CMO Steve Robinson told national gay magazine The Advocate this week:

"This is an advertisement that a locally owned and operated restaurant has been using for the past five years to promote Chick-fil-A's catering options during the holidays.

It was simply a play on words referring to the traditional holiday food, and the restaurant had no intention of offending anyone whatsoever. We regret the flier may have been taken out of context."

The Chamblee Chick-fil-A owner, who wished to remain unnamed, said, "Anyone who knows me knows I am not like that. I did not mean to offend or hurt anyone."

OK, ok this is getting out of control. You can twist the word "Chicken" and make it offensive. If you don't know what I just wrote, let sleeping dogs lie. The LBGTQ community needs to chill out.

Its not like their low end "chicken" platters are that good anyway. Recommend trying free range chicken and antibiotic free chicken - huge improvement in taste and healthy for you.

I'm more concerned about the 'Double Stuffed Man Sausage Platter'. We know what you're trying to say Chick-fil-A!

The use of cows in their advertising is offensive to Hindus.

Thanks liberals for making my son afraid to fail, and hence learn valuable life lessons, afraid to offend, and hence not stand up for himself, afraid to be un pc and hence be a twit. You may have had good intentions but you fu everything especially black culture which is so mutilated majority of black youth can't be bothered to try education and commitment and taking responsibility is equal to throwing away free money. How do you plan on fixing that liberals? With more entitlements?

Your son sounds extremely fragile. I highly recommend extensive neurological testing to understand why different points of view could crush him like a delicate vase. Perhaps his parents are too genetically similar and causing dna mutations? I'm not trying to make light of your post. You can claim a preexisting condition with Obamacare to get the treatment he desperately needs.
