I think that's kinda lame. We've already got the "green space" already needed at that intersection. That corner need to be redeveloped to look something like in the linked corner. That needs to be a very prominent corner and look like a real city corner. Build that whole block to the sidewalk and conceal that massive parking lot in back. Build up to help bring the sidewalk to life. Of course, at one of the most prominent urban corners in the metro area, there is the greenspace in front of the Federal Reserve, a large patio at the corner by 999, and a fenced in yard by Margaret Mitchell. None of this is engaging, active, urban streetscape.

I could not agree more. It is surrounding urbanism that makes small parks special, not the other way around. The Midtown Alliance has done a lot of great work but I think this one is misplaced. The only thing this will do is probably create some resistance to removing the park when someone does finally develop that block.

BTW, I LOOOOVE the corner building that Steve linked and HATE when new developments shave off the corner of buildings (see Spire).

It's better than nothing, but I'd like to see that whole block developed in a way that brings more folks to midtown. But please tell me that they are going to re-grade that pocket park so that one does not get the feeling that you are going to roll down the slope into that morass of a parking lot behind the Dewberry property. Just walking down the sidewalk there gives me an uneasy feeling.

This is a better idea than what is currently there or have been there for years! Businesses have been coming and going everywhere in this area. I bet what the above people mean by urbanism is another freaking gay bar with waiters in speedo's or something worse.

You people are crazy. What 10th and Peachtree needs is either a CVS/Rite Aid, Liquor Store, U-haul rental location or a gas station (with built in Church's chicken and kiwk-E-mart). On second thought, how about a "Party City"?

Midtown Alliance here. We appreciate and share the passion for Midtown. All of us would like to see this prominent block redeveloped. Yet, given the current economic climate, it’s likely to be a while before that happens. In the meantime, we found this to be a great opportunity to create a temporary community amenity, activate this stretch of Peachtree and improve the aesthetics of this high profile corner. Dewberry Capital was enthusiastic and agreed to partner, which made it possible. As noted, the resulting temporary park will include seating areas to enjoy lunch, a new sustainable garden, a small stage for acoustic music/performance and we are exploring a piece of temp art to help anchor the corner.

I hope that the park is privately patrolled; otherwise it will just be a bum magnet.

I love the idea but come on....you know what's going to happen here. It will be swamped with homeless soon. I know that sounds cold, but it's the truth.

I'm all for it, as long as it really is temporary.

I can see it now. A year from now when a developer wants to put something on the arguably most prime intersection in Midtown (maybe all of town), people will be screaming, chaining themselves to trees, and throwing bumper stickers and yards signs everywhere crying out to "not let developers take our greenspace."

If it is truly temporary, tear down the entire group of eyesore buildings on that block and make it a larger temporary park.

If it were economically feasible to build a new tower on that block in Midtown, you can bet that Dewberry would be hard at work pre-leasing and engaging potential tenants in order to get space commitments so they can get construction financing to build a new tower. However, despite what your imagination tells you, in the real world, people make decisions based on economics. Developers don't decide to break ground on a new building because the street corner really needs it or residents are clamoring for it. They build because there is demand for space and there is an opportunity to provide that space and make a profit at the same time. Dewberry isn't to blame. If they sold the parcel to another developer, that wouldn't change the fact that it is simply not economically feasible or viable to build on that land in today's economy.

I'd like to see someone actually plant a real Peach tree at the corner, somehow, someway. Peach tree as in the type that bears fruit. Can it be done?

Who wants to grab a torch and storm Dewberry's castle with me? Dewberry, Novare (Borders) and Fuqua are clamoring for the top slot on Atlanta's most hated list. All for good reasons.

Look! Selig is looking to buy more land and actually develop it... Dewberry should do Atlanta a favor and sell this parcel to them.
