Dim Sum Restaurant Plans to Open in West Midtown

Yum Bunz eyes spot near the Brickworks development.

Atlanta soon will have a casual dim sum restaurant.

Mike Blum, the restaurateur behind The Real Chow Baby, plans to open Yum Bunz in West Midtown. The restaurant will open this winter.

"I'm real excited about it," Blum said Thursday afternoon. "It's healthy and fun and innovative."

Blum said he is close to signing a lease near the Brickworks development on Marietta Street.

Yum Bunz will specialize in bao -- Asian steamed buns filled with meat and vegetables. Each bao will cost $1.59 and has less than 200 calories, according to the company.

"It's something new, something never done in Atlanta," said Blum, a 1995 graduate of North Springs High School in Sandy Springs. Blum left The Real Chow Baby in January and has been working on the new concept since then.

Other items will include organic rice, noodle bowls, pot stickers and salad. The restaurant will serve wine and beer, but will be a quick-serve format. Blum said it will be "faster than Chipotle."
