Sushi at Steel Restaurant

Steel Restaurant offers Midtown mothers and others two hours of lounging, discount signature cocktails and free sushi.

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening.  It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Nothing says fun like free sushi in Atlanta, especially for mothers who might otherwise eat fish only when it's fried in sticks with ketchup on the side. offers a free sushi happy hour every Wednesday. Guests can sit and enjoy anything on the menu, including fresh cocktails, while being served endless samples of maki rolls. The tradition is in its third "happy" year in Midtown.

Manager Chuck Kneeland said mothers would enjoy the Steel environment because the restaurant is comfortable, beautiful and decorated with soothing warm colors.

The restaurant dining area is surrounded by a soothing rain curtain and artwork by Shane Pennington hangs on the walls. Floors and tables are made of Teak wood and lighting is modern. Guests can enjoy the happy hour in the private wine room, lounge area, wasabi booth or at the bar.  This is the only Steel location in Georgia, and free parking in the garage under the restaurant is a superior accomodation for mothers in Midtown.

"[Mothers] can get in and out quick... it's good energy and a great value," Kneeland said.

Steel serves "indochine" cuisine, which is to say the menu is not limited to sushi, but rather includes a variety of foods food from Thailand, Vietnam and Korea as well. Kneeland said there is great hot food on the menu and it's all healthy. There is a separate vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free menu for customers if they desire it. Signature cocktails include: pometini, apple martini, cosmo bianco and blackberry mojito.

And moms, if you have a Saturday afternoon free, ask about the Saturday Education Series beginning in March. There is a sushi rolling class, and space is limited.
