Green Party Candidate Seeking House District 57 Seat

West End community leader Kwabena Nkromo is collecting signatures to get on the District 57 ballot as a Green Party candidate

A Green Party candidate is campaigning to get on the District 57 ballot in November.

Kwabena Nkromo, a Historic West End community leader, told Patch he began collecting signatures on the petition about three weeks ago.

He needs just over 1,500 signatures by August 6 to get his name on the November ballot.

“We feel like it’s really do-able,” he said.

Nkromo would face the winner of the District 57 Democratic primary in July.

Democratic Incumbents Pat Gardner (District 57) and Rashad Taylor (District 55) for the Democratic ticket.

Gardner and Taylor are forced to run for the same seat after legislators redrew district boundaries statewide last year. Portions of Midtown are in District 57.

Nkromo, a leader of Neighborhood Planning Unit-T, threw his name in the ring for a seat on the Atlanta Public Schools board of education in 2011, but .

He said transportation and charter school legislation are among the issues he hopes to focus on.

“I just felt like I needed to get involved and steer things in the right direction,” he said.
