Heart of Midtown going Greek

Buckhead's beloved Café Agora to open location near Margaret Mitchell House.

A popular Mediterranean café that’s operated in Buckhead for a decade is branching out to the heart of Midtown.

Café Agora – a venerable hole-in-the-wall in the former Buckhead Village known for economical cuisine and its extremely friendly owner, "Al" – is set to open at 92 Peachtree Place, next to Arden’s Garden and near the Margaret Mitchell House.

Specializing in Turkish, Greek and Mediterranean fare, the café will occupy about 700 square feet in a building called Historic Commercial Row. The spot is among Atlanta’s first retail spaces, said Gene Kanas, whose commercial real estate firm represented the landlord in the deal.

Kansas said the second Café Agora location would likely open by October. The Midtown location will have the same menu as the original (think: lemony hummus and juicy lamb kebobs).

The Buckhead café, which opened about a decade ago, will remain. It’s still open on weekends until 4 a.m.

"They have always wanted an additional location," Kansas said of Agora’s ownership. "The timing was right for Midtown."

It’s unclear if Café Agora’s tradition of giving away food to dine-in customers – especially delectable Baklava deserts – will make the move.

Do you like Café Agora? Do you think it's a good restaurant for Midtown? Tell us in the comments.

I'm so excited this space will be used! the heart of midtown needs shops- not creepy unrented spaces. First smoothies, now Greek food- it's getting better and better.

Excellent use for that spot. If the food is good, I will be a regular!

Awesome! The star on this map here, should be moved east, though. This location is just west of Peachtree Steeet, on Peachtree Place, and east of Crescent.
