Former DA Presents 'Ignorance is No Defense' at Grady PTA Meeting

Parents will learn about Georgia Laws and how they affect teenagers, so they can help their children navigate the justice system.

On March 12th, 2013 the Grady High School PTA will meet again to discuss the latest issues involving the parents and students of Grady High School.  The official agenda lists a scheduled vote on the 2013 PTA Board leaders as well as a presentation by former DeKalb County District Attorney and author J. Tom Morgan.

J. Tom Morgan will present his talk on the law in Georgia and how it applies to our teenagers and parents at the March PTA meeting.  Ignorance is No Defense explains Georgia laws to teenagers in easy-to-understand language. With a primary focus on criminal laws, Ignorance is No Defense not only describes what the law requires but also teenagers’ rights under the law.

This presentation comes on the heels of another dangerous shooting, in which a Grady High female student accidentally shot herself in the leg while in the Grady parking lot.  Morgan Tukes, the 17 year-old suspected shooter was charged with multiple crimes for having and discharging the weapon on campus.

In addition to the above presentation, PTA members will vote on the nomination committee's choices for 2013-2014 PTA leadership positions at Grady High School.  The nominated names are as follows:

  1. Co-President:  Abby Martin
  2. Co-President:  Christa Martin
  3. VP of Communications: Larissa Bradburn
  4. VP of Fundraising and Special Events:  Erlese Caruth
  5. VP of Family Engagement:  Elizabeth Rogan
  6. VP of Operations and School Support: Dr. Mary Lynn Realff
  7. Secretary:  Laura Kish
