Man shot near Center Stage in Midtown

An off-duty Atlanta police officer working at the Midtown music venue was involved in a shooting after observing a suspect firing toward a group of people.

A man was shot in the leg late Tuesday evening while attending a concert event at the Center Stage Music Complex in Midtown.

The complex, located at 1374 West Peachtree Street, is home to three separate music venues. According to Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee, an event had just concluded around 11 p.m. when an off-duty officer working the event heard shots being fired and observed a suspect firing toward a group of people.

Chafee said the officer confronted the suspect and fired multiple shots at the suspect, who ran to a vehicle and fled the scene.

Around 30 minutes later, a male entered Grady Hospital indicating he had been shot in the leg at the concert venue. According to Chafee, it is not clear at this time who shot him.

A short time before the shooting, an altercation between two groups of people took place inside the music complex, but it is not clear if this is related to the shooting.

No other injuries have been reported and the incident remains under investigation. The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.

According to a local concert calendar, on Tuesday night, Center Stage hosted the Spoiled Milk concert series, which is billed as a showcase for Atlanta-area indie hip-hop artists.

Following the incident, West Peachtree St. was closed for several hours as police investigated.

I am appalled by the actions taken by some people , and their behaviors . Crime is not only something invented by or committed by Black people. We do commit crime but you need to admit that White folks in similar situations are just as violent. Please pay attention to what happened yesterday in Clayton County with the loss of a wonderful and committed police officer, and the strange guy targeting our President and the laughing skull club who was hoarding multiple weapons. I can't believe all of the racist attitudes that most of your contributors seem to have . You contributors always assume that when someone is shot or some crime is committed Black people are the subject. What has happened to Atlanta? It bothers me that the editors of this publication seem to feed on this racism as well .

I did indeed read the story. I would like you to tell me where it identifies the shooter as being Black and the Policeman being White. I have lived in Atlanta for more than 25 years and it seems to be moving backward when it comes to racial understanding. We , and I mean all of us need to wake up and realize that not all hip hop is attended by Black folk only. If you look at the sales of the music , it is purchased mainly by White people and the concerts are not attended by all Black people. Your assumptions are wrong. What is not funny , is your intolerance and ignorance.

My comment was referencing the event in Atlanta at Center stage in Midtown. The shooting in Clayton was a side note.

Hunt, Thanks for responding, I appreciate your work believe me. I make my comments based on the past commentary from many posts I have read in The Patch recently. I base my opinions only on what I read here . I have seen much hatred in the writings of many of your contributors. My opinion is just that, my opinion ,( I know everyone has one ) I did not mean to offend you and The Patch , I just wish some of your readers and contributors were positive and more considerate .
Why not love , respect , and understanding instead ?
