Meet Emilio: He’s More Mellow Than Jello
Emilio, a 3-year-old cat, needs a quiet home and someone to love him.
Every week, Midtown Patch visits an area shelter and highlights the story of an adoptable animal that might otherwise get overlooked.
Emilio is a cat all the volunteers want. However, he keeps getting overlooked. When visitors stop by the Furkids Midtown Outlet, they almost always go straight for the kittens.
Of course, the 3-year-old domestic short haired cat is usually hiding or perched on the edge of his cage watching all the action from a safe distance.
Emilio isn’t shy as it might seem; he simply prefers calm people.
“He’s not a fan of all the noise,” Furkids volunteer Becky Harman said. “It takes him awhile to get used to new things … and new people.”
Once you go over to him, he’s happy to let you rub his chin. And when you pick him up, he’s even happier.
A lover to the core, he doesn’t allow anything to phase him and rarely makes a sound. He will headbutt you given the opportunity, but this is a sign of affection.
He’s usually content to lie around but enjoys playing as well. His favorite toy is something Harman describes as “stick with the tail on it.” She swings it nearby his face and he bats at it with his paw.
“There’s something very distinct" about Emilio, Harman said.
She mentioned his beautiful green eyes and unique grey and white coloring, but couldn't quite put a finger on what makes him so special.
If you want to make this lap cat part of your life, consider that he would probably be best with adults in a quiet home.
He’s been at the PetsSmart at 650 Ponce de Leon Avenue for two weeks and will probably be there another three to four weeks before going back to the shelter. He came to Furkids on his last day from Murray County Animal Control. His adoption fee is $85, and he’s healthy and has had all of his shots.
Guess what? Remember the other lap cat from Furkids named Odin? He got adopted three days after he appeared here on Midtown Patch.
