Meet Macy: Patiently Waiting for A Home

A 3-year-old grey cat has been at Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption for several months. Also, BOGO kittens.

Every week, Midtown Patch visits an area shelter and highlights the story of an adoptable animal that might otherwise get overlooked.

Macy is one of those cats that everyone expects to get adopted almost immediately. She is a gorgeous grey domestic long hair (or possibly a Main Coon) who is easy-going, playful and skillful at purring.

Months after being surrendered by her owners for an unknown reason, one of Macy's favorite activities is laying outside on the screened in porch at , peering at passersby with her lime green eyes.

“We thought she’d be gone quickly,” cat program manager Dana Widmer said.

When asked why she thought the fluffy, 3-year-old cat hadn’t been adopted yet, Widner pointed out that Macy doesn’t come up and greet visitors the way many cats do. Instead, she waits for you to sit down, and then she crawls in your lap and stays there.

Her front paws are declawed, something many owners see as a perk. However, the practice is not recommended by APRA.

“It can be painful. It can cause behavior problems. The nails can grow back later,” Widmer said.

Macy doesn’t exhibit any problems, though. She is a typical, companion cat, perhaps a little overweight but could easily drop a few pounds if someone regulated her diet.

“We don’t recommend keeping cats outside, but she would love a screened outdoor area. She’s great with other cats, but can be an only cat too,” Widmer said.

A few weeks ago, a couple came in and narrowed down their options to Macy and a kitten. They decided to adopt the kitten.

Sometimes, Macy makes noise or plays with a green mouse toy, but usually she lounges, looking pretty, patiently waiting for her forever home.

To adopt Macy, contact Atlanta Pet Rescue by visiting their website or emailing them at info@atlantapetrescue.org.

June is Adopt A Pet Month. Usually the fee to adopt a cat is $125, but Macy can be adopted for $100 for this month only. APRA is also offering two-for-one kittens for $125: double your pleasure, double your fun, adopt two kittens for the price of one.
