Midtown Traffic Alert: Atlanta Police Say Up to 190,000 To Attend Weekend Events Intown
The Atlanta Police Department is asking the public to be mindful of several Downtown events which could also cause traffic tie-ups for neighboring communities.
The Atlanta Police Department is warning city residents that there will be extra volume of traffic intown this weekend due to a number of highly anticipated events.
According to an APD news release, "events will be held at Philips Arena, the Georgia World Congress Center, and the Georgia Dome beginning Friday. Both pedestrian and vehicular traffic is expected to be extremely heavy around these events. The Department will have a plan in place to ensure smooth traffic flow."
Downtown events include:
- Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus, Phillips Arena, Through Sunday
- Cheersport Nationals, Georgia World Congress Center, Through Sunday
- Bronner Brothers International Hair Show, Georgia World Congress Center, Saturday-Tuesday
- Monster Jam, Georgia Dome, Saturday, 7:00 PM
The best way to travel to these events is by taking MARTA or carpooling, says APD.
The APD also reminds people to always be mindful of their surroundings and use other common sense measures to reduce the chances of becoming the victim of a crime of opportunity.
"Thieves continue to target personal handheld electronics (smart phones and tablet computers), so take care to safeguard those during your visit," the APD news release warns. "Thefts of valuables from vehicles are an easily preventable crime. Adhere to the department’s “Clean Car Campaign,” and leave nothing of value in your motor vehicle when unattended, including firearms, electronics, cash and GPS units."
The Atlanta Police Department will be out in force to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
Patch also reminds people to report suspicious activity to 911. Suspicious activity may also be reported to the many on and off-duty Atlanta police officers that will be working the numerous venues throughout the city.
