North Midtown Getting Its Shell Service Station Back

Retro-style service station and 24-hour convenience store expected to return to the 1521 Peachtree Street location near Ansley Park next month.

The north Midtown area has been void of a gas station since last year when the Peachtree Circle Shell, located at the edge of Ansley Park at the corner of Peachtree Street and Peachtree Circle, shuttered its doors.

Dewberry Capital, which purchased the half-acre parcel at 1521 Peachtree St. in the fall of 2008, had the doors locked and the pumps removed in 2011. But now there are plans for a Shell convenience store and service station to return to the space.

A Decatur businessman has submitted plans with the City of Atlanta to open “Uptown Station” in the space in late November. The Neighborhood Planning Unit-E is expected to hear from the business owner at its next meeting on Nov. 6.

According to the plans submitted, the store is expected to be opened 24 hours and will serve beer and wine. The former Peachtree Circle Shell closed at 11 p.m.

The station will be given a retro look and there’s the possibility that the car wash facility in the back of the property could at some point be sub-leased to a coffee shop with outdoor seating.
