NPU-E to hear about proposed Midtown sports complex
Developers seeking to build a 514,000-plus square-foot sports complex in the Loring Heights neighborhood just north of Atlantic Station that would target training rising elite athletes.
The October Neighborhood Planning Unit-E meeting is set for Tuesday at Peachtree Christian Church located at 1580 Peachtree Street. NPU-E serves several Midtown Patch neighborhoods including Midtown, Ansley Park, Atlantic Station, Home Park, Georgia Tech, Loring Heights and the westside of the city.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. The volunteer board of elected community leaders make recommendations to the city on voting issues including zoning and permit applications.
On Tuesday’s agenda, NPU members are scheduled to hear from developers seeking to build a 514,000-plus square-foot sports complex in the Loring Heights neighborhood just north of Atlantic Station.
Odyssey Sports Atlanta wants to construct the expansive facility on an industrial site located between 450 and 464 Bishop Street. The land rests behind the Atlantic Station mixed-use development and the complex would target training rising elite athletes.
The ‘sportsplex’ would include a multi-sport indoor recreational facility that plans call for to house an Olympic-size pool and diving amenities; 10 basketball courts; 11 tennis courts; two lacrosse/soccer fields; and a hockey rink.
The facility would provide indoor practice, training, and competition amenities and developers would like to have it completed by the end of 2017.
Among the special events and outdoor festivals to be discussed and voted on for approval Tuesday include:

It's a great idea for normal people - 20 bucks it will turn ghetto after a few moths and then turn into section 8 housing :-(
But wait,

why wouldn't they use the site bordered by 17th, northside, and the railroad tracks(behind IKEA to the north)? it is a huge empty expanse that seems perfect for this sort of thing whereas that address is showing a bunch of warehouses that would have to be demolished.

@ But wait, the property you speak of has long been considered as the new home of the Amtrak station. Most likely it's already owned by someone and a lot more expensive.
