Obama coming to Midtown?

After fundraising stops in New England on Monday, President Barack Obama arrives in Atlanta Tuesday to stump for votes and collect campaigning cash.

There have been reports the commander in chief will make a pit stop in Midtown. And if the presidential motorcade rolls through the area, expect traffic delays to come with it.

At 1:30 p.m., Obama will speak before an estimated crowd of 500 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown where tickets started at $500. Later, 20 or so donors have forked out $35,000 each to be a part of a campaign roundtable with Obama.

The president will later depart Atlanta for a pair of Miami fundraisers, including a private home affair where 30 donors are reported to have paid $40,000 each to attend.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday that Obama would like to make at a quick appearance near Cypress Street Pint & Plate, where filming for “42” is scheduled to take place. The movie about Major League Baseball great Jackie Robinson has mostly been shooting in Birmingham, Chattanooga and Macon, but on Monday crews were seen setting up on 6th Street between Cypress and West Peachtree streets.

The movie stars Chadwick Boseman, who plays the athlete who broke MLB’s color line in the 1940s, and Harrison Ford, who portrays the general manager who brought Robinson to the majors. Posted fliers indicate film work will take place in the area of Cypress, W. Peachtree and Peachtree streets this week.

However, late Monday evening FOX 5 reported that a representative from the Obama campaign communicated that the president had no intention of stopping by the movie set.

In March, the president made a trio of fundraising stops during a whirlwind eight-hour Atlanta visit in which his campaigning raised more than $734,000.

On Monday, Obama was in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, where in Boston 25 campaign donors paid $40,000 each to attend a campaign roundtable. The monies raised go to Obama’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state Democratic parties.

During the two-state visit, the president said his Republican rival, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, would slash health care coverage and raise taxes on the middle class if elected in November.

Obama made no mention Monday of Thursday’s expected Supreme Court ruling on the validity of the health care overhaul from two years ago or the high court’s split decision Monday on Arizona's 2010 immigration law.
