Saks raises almost $15K for Atlanta Humane Society

Haute hounds and couture cats lead the red carpet at Saks Fifth Avenue's 2012 Spring Fashion Show.

Last month, Atlanta Humane Society’s premiere animals graced the red carpet at Saks Fifth Avenue’s 2012 Spring Fashion Show to benefit their shelter companions. The first annual Haute Hounds and Couture Cats event showcased a runway of hot fashions and adorable pets.

Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) received more $14,300 from ticket sales and nearly $500 from the Reed Krakoff tote raffle.

More than 170 people attended the fashion show — a mixture of charity supporters and loyal Saks customers.

"This was our first annual fashion show with Saks and we are very pleased with the results,” said William Shaheen, president of AHS in a press release. “We had a fabulous time and raised a significant amount of money to further our mission. This fashion show is an example of how the private sector and non-profits can come together in a creative, entertaining and mutually beneficial way.”

Saks also donated 5-percent of all registered purchases made with a Saks credit card during the month of February, back to charity. AHS was one of five local charities on the roster from which customers could select.

Up next for the AHS is its annual spring Pet Parade April 21 at Atlantic Station. Rain or shine, thousands of dogs and their owners will hit the trails of Atlantic Station, walking to help generate awareness in the community and support fundraising for animal shelters.
