Santa Speedo Run to Streak through Midtown

Organizers hope next month's event helps raise $150,000 for CURE Childhood Cancer.

Back for a fourth year, the Atlanta Santa Speedo Run is bigger than ever with a focused goal in 2012 of raising $150,000 for CURE Childhood Cancer, a non-profit dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through research, education and support.

Since its inception, the Atlanta Santa Speedo Run has more than tripled in size and contributions to local charities. This year, the event will again push the envelope with more festive attire and more scantily clad men and women running down the frosty streets of Midtown.

On December 8 at 2 p.m., approximately 250 runners will take their positions at the starting line for a holiday-inspired scramble through the heart of Atlanta. The approximately one-mile course starts and ends at Hudson Grille, located at 942 Peachtree Street. Following the cold weather dash, participants will return to Hudson Grille for an event celebration and award ceremony. There is a $25 registration fee and each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $250.

“Each year the Atlanta Santa Speedo Run grows larger and more festive,” said event organizer Ted Tuerk in apress release. “We all have a great time, but the best part is building a community and raising money for a worthy charity.  We’re excited to partner with CURE Childhood Cancer this year to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.”

Wearing a Speedo (or similar attire) is required and runners are encouraged to accessorize with holiday themed flair such as Santa hats, beards, stockings and other festive accents.
