SCAD students tied up, robbed in Midtown dorm room

Early Wednesday morning incident does not result in injuries as police are seeking two male suspects

Two men allegedly broke into a Savannah College of Art and Design dorm room in Midtown early Wednesday morning and bound and robbed a pair of male students.

Atlanta Police are seeking two black males in connection with the incident that reportedly occurred around 6 a.m. at the Spring House, an on-campus housing facility in the 1400 block of Spring Street.

According to APD Officer John Chafee, one suspect knocked on a door and when the occupant slightly opened the door, the suspect forced his way inside. “Once inside, the male put one of the victims in a choke hold and tied his hands and wrists,’’ said Chafee.

The suspect then began stealing electronics, clothing and other items from the unit. The second suspect soon entered the room and when the second victim awoke during the incident, and was also tied up.

The victims were not physically injured and were able to untie themselves and call police after the suspects left.

The first suspect is described as a black male, about 6-foot-2, weighing 180 to 200 pounds. He was in his late 20s or early 30s and was wearing a blue zip-up hoodie and blue jeans.

Suspect No. 2 is described as a black male, about 5-foot-11 to 6 feet tall, weighing about 240 pounds with a muscular build, a beard and bald head or short haircut. He is possibly in his 30s and was wearing a black shirt.

Lookouts for the suspects were given over radio and police investigators are attempting to determine how the suspects entered the housing facility.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that SCAD officials released a statement that read in part, “The safety and security of SCAD students, faculty and staff is of paramount importance to the university. SCAD employs a variety of vigorous security measures, including 24-hour on-site security guards and mandatory ID checks.”
