Suspect sought in Midtown convenience store robbery

Suspect sprayed pepper in employee's face before making off with cash

The Atlanta Police Commercial Robbery Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect involved in a robbery of the Peachtree Superette last Saturday morning.

According to police investigators, the suspect entered the store, located at 75 Ponce de Leon Avenue in the Ponce Condominiums building near Peachtree Street, shortly after 10 a.m. on June 2, 2012. A female employee was working behind the counter when the suspect asked her for something from behind the counter.

When she looked down to retrieve the item, the suspect sprayed her in the face with pepper spray. The suspect then came behind the counter and attempted to open the cash register. While he was unsuccessful in accessing the cash register, he did take the store's petty cash totaling approximately $427.

A subsequent review of the store’s security cameras depicted the suspect as a black male standing approximately six feet tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a dark colored security uniform with badge, sunglasses, and an Atlanta Braves hat.

The woman was not further injured during the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS(8477).

On Wednesday there were about 9 State Patrol cars at the gas station across from Mr. C's - was this related to this incident? Do you know what is going on?

Is this the correct picture? That picture was taken at the MARTA station and I do not see "dark colored security uniform with badge, sunglasses, and an Atlanta Braves hat."

Matthew, this is the picture provided by the APD. It was apparently taken after the robbery and is not from the convenience store's security camera.
