Trio of pre-dawn armed pedestrian robberies in Ansley, Midtown neighborhoods

Burgundy sedan utilized as the getaway vehicle in each crime.

Love was certainly not in the Valentine's Day air after a string of pre-dawn armed pedestrian robberies around the Ansley Park and Midtown neighborhoods early Thursday morning.

According to Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones, at approximately 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a call at 1280 Peachtree Street where a male victim stated that he had been robbed by several black males near the intersection of Peachtree and 12th streets. [Editor's note: the address originally provided by APD was later revised to indicate that it was 1280 West Peachtree Street]

The victim reported that one of the suspects stuck a gun to his head and demanded his property. After taking the man’s undisclosed belongings, the suspects left the scene in a burgundy vehicle.

While the officers were assisting the victim, who suffered a minor cut to the head, two more area pedestrian robberies came in through dispatch. One occurred near Piedmont Avenue and The Prado and the other at 10th Street and Argonne Avenue.

In the incident at The Prado, a female victim stated that three black males approached her, with one suspect pointing a gun at her and demanding her purse. After taking her purse, the suspects reportedly left in a burgundy sedan vehicle and the victim suffered a minor bruise to her arm.

The third incident victim reported that he was walking westbound on 10th when a black male approached him, pointed a gun at him and demanded his property. Once the suspect took the undisclosed property, the suspect struck the victim in the face with his gun, before getting in a burgundy vehicle and leaving the scene. It is not known how serious the victim was injured.

Atlanta police reports that prior to these robberies, APD Zones 3 and 4 had pedestrian robberies that had occurred involving the same description of the Midtown suspects and vehicle.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Don't waste time calling Midtown Blue, seriously a bunch of idiots! I've called them several times and they never respond. I always walk my dog by there and the only thing their trucks are good for is to take up spots meant for the public!! I hope more people noticed that?? It's hard enough to find the number to call but then to explain the situation to someone over there is brain numbing!

I live at the corner of 7th and Juniper and I regularly see the truck parked in the parking lot behind Bulldogs, in the far corner close to Juniper St. I'm guessing they are sleeping judging on the time the truck is parked there (2-3 hours).

Also agree with your comments regarding calling them. I've done so several times and they show up about 1 out of 3 times.

You may have valid points but you should be calling 911 with all issues. If you don't do that, it doesn't get tracked.

These a**holes are getting bolder and bolder, right in the middle of the so-called Midtown Mile (or whatever they call it) on Peachtree.for god's sake. This is getting way, way out of control. Mayor Reed, step up and do your job. Fix this!!!

The fun continues. I'm sure some will argue that you should not be out at 4:45 at night, but some people have to work that early. Sucks getting jacked up on your way to work.

Just when you hear of a big bust, like the carjacking a-holes recently, a new set of thugs comes out to terrorize the city. There is an endless supply being raised by single moms in poverty. And we all suffer from it.

What kind of idiot would argue that you "shouldn't be out at a certain hour"? I'm fairly certain we don't have a curfew

But wait,

who are all these people out randomly between 4 and 5 in the morning?

What are you insinuating? Who they are is irrelevant. They were assaulted & robbed at gunpoint. No one should have a gun put to their head. Stop adding insult to injury.

At 4:45 many people that have to be at work by 6am would already be out. Also what about healthcare workers that may have gotten off at 3am. There is no need to put the victims at fault. We should be able to walk around our midtown neighborhood whenever we please, without constant fear of being robbed.

Thank you Will and Derrick.

For people like "But wait" who need justification before I'm allowed any sort of sympathy for being attacked, I was on my way to work. Had to be there at 5am. Definitely not out "randomly" wandering the streets.

Ya, carrying a gun will surely affect the crime rate in Atlanta. Some thug gets the drop on a citizen carrying a gun and now the thug has 2 guns. LOL. Priceless. I thought all you midtowners were supposed to be intelligent and educated. God bless the university system.

In communicating with the police, the vehicle is believed to be a dark red Ford Taurus and as one might expect, APD believes that each of the robberies are connected. Sounds like authorities might have some good leads, but if you do see a vehicle that matches this description or similar in the neighborhood, especially late at night, please call 911 so the police can investigate.

This type of stuff happening in the so called best area of any other city would get major press coverage but in Atlanta discussing crime is a taboo topic due to the racial component.
Meanwhile Kasim Reed fiddles (stadium) as Atlanta burns (crime).

But enough of this boring crime stuff......the Falcons want a new stadium, so let's focus on that.

Once again, I am so very, very glad that I don't live in Atlanta anymore. In my little Decatur neighborhood (Oakhurst), if we call the police, they're here in fifteen minutes or so. In Atlanta, I once witnessed a man beating up his girlfriend. I called police and they showed up... SIX hours later!

Crime rates have decreased in Atlanta each year Reed has been in office. Yes we should want more to be done, but I think that can be done while working with Reed. Especially considering a lot of the very positive moves his made in Atlanta in the last 4 years.

@Vianen
You are incorrect, the stats provided by the APD as reported to the FBI do not confirm that.
Additionally when Atlanta did go down it was less than the national average.
If you are going to be a sjill for the mayors office please substantiate the facts.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it. For all of you "up and coming" 20-30 somethings who want more rentals in midtown, this is what you have to live with. You want city life, you have to deal with city issues. Sure the police should do their jobs but what should be and what is are separate in and of themselves. More people = more crime. Get over it. It's what you all wanted anyway.

Once again you provide an expose into the mind of a mentally challenged individual. "City life", in the sense that many hope for it, is not what Atlanta provides. The type of "city life" that many Atlantans hope for is the kind provided for by cities like NYC, San Francisco, etc. Places that have an abundance of rentals and high density populations, two factors that create a self policing element that keeps neighborhoods safe. With proper planning, more people does not equal more crime...it equals less on a per capita basis, which is what's important.

Stick to your sheltered life in the burbs, with no exposure to anything outside of the homogeneous mixture of equally simple minded, short sighted, uncultured, back office commuters that you're used to, and leave the cities to people who want to make an impact in this world.

@urbanist, Atlanta doesn't provide the city life people are hoping for? They want something like NYC or San Fran? Well guess what, ATL will never be NYC or San Fran. When ATL gets a public transportation system like NYC and a government like NYC, then it will be a real city.

So now that you realize that you don't live in the city, why don't you poser city people leave for a real city?

We have to be on the lookout for suspicious black folks in midtown who are not gay. I hate to say that, but if they were white Cubans committing the crimes then i would same the same about them... Last month while walking to meet friends at Zocalo, I saw three suspicious black guys on the phone (they were on the subway side of Piedmont) they were staring at two obviously gay guys walking their little dog across the street. I felt a dangerous vibe and I told the two guys to keep walking and that I had their back. I picked up a rock and kept staring at them... They started to break up and I called the APD and within minutes they quietly surrounded the area and arrested one of them. They went after the other two.... They might have to tried to rob them, but I would have seriously wounded at least one of them... We have to look out for people that live in the Midtown community whether they are gay, straight or whatever!

@Atl Resident, I do the same thing. Don't hesitate and call the cops when you see thugs. You really think they are visiting any of the restaurants and bars in the area? You did the right move by calling 911. I've done it probably two dozen times in 2 years and twice that I know of it has led to arrest. One for an outstanding warrant and another for caring a concealed, stolen weapon. It sends a clear message that people are watching them and not afraid to call the cops. And I don't want to hear any racist or PC crap. We all know the difference in thugs and everyone else.

Well I personally feel that we should adopt some middle eastern justice and not the sissy, whiny, making excuses for everyone why they do what they do. When you do crimes like these, you should get flogged by a professional martial arts and tortured. I guarantee you these thugs would stop doing what they do if punishment would severe. Jail is like a retreat for them, they just exchange notes how to be a better criminal, get to work out and enough time to think about a bunch of sinister stuff to do when they get out.

I am even for cutting their hand off where they held the gun.

Well the thing is that these criminals go where they think they can come up. Midtown / Buckhead is praised as the upper echelon and they also feel that those white people that live there are very gullible and yes majority of robberies in the city are done by young blacks this is fact because they love and idolize that type of lifestyle just listen to the hip hop songs. You can get mad all you want but if it is in your face it is what it is.

Also crime has risen in other more prominent areas around the city such as Dunwoody and Sandy Springs and it is not because of Marta it is simply because they think that is where the money is and might be an easy catch.

Atlanta media often doesn't want to offend racial sensitivities by reporting all the rampant crime and the race of said perpetrators.
I for one will be sending my campaign contributions to anyone who has a shot at defeating the mayor, who also seems not to want to try anything new to curtail crime.

I have repeatedly asked for someone in the journalism field to pull the stats of random gun/violent crime since Jan. 2012, map the crimes by date and tag them to criminals' residences when caught (how many are OTP). The overall crime rate may be down, but the stranger on stranger gun crime in the intown neighborhoods has skyrocketed. South of Old Fourth Ward it's the wild wild west, but without comprehensive reporting and only spotty reporting on various Patch's, you get no scope of the issue. APD is trying, having nabbed a couple of car jacking rings, but the fact that there are multiple car jacking rings, armed mugging rings, and never mind the fleeting predators on the Beltline it is no where near enough. When a Kasim Reed supporter indicated 'for the first time we have 2,000 officers' how many of them are newly minted/green, and from my personal safety standpoint it isn't making much of any difference. The only difference is we've not yet had a bartender executed while on the job.

As a foreign student currently going to school here in Atlanta, my experiences with this city has not been great so far. My biggest complain by far is CRIME. Poverty is everywhere, streets are filled with mean and nasty thugs. Local students told me I should never venture out at night. I feel like living in a dangerous third world African country rather than United States.
