Trunk-jumping robbers arrested on Juniper

Suspects use odd approach to Midtown robbery early Tuesday morning

Atlanta police arrested two men early Tuesday morning who were allegedly connected with an earlier pedestrian robbery in Midtown.

According to Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones, at approximately 4 a.m., APD Zone 5 units responded to a suspicious vehicle that was related to a pedestrian robbery near Piedmont Avenue.

A female victim reported to officers that a Ford Taurus with a paper tag pulled up to her and a man popped out the trunk with a small black pistol. She was robbed at gunpoint of her purse and two cell phones.

Nearby, APD officers made a traffic stop of a Ford Taurus with a paper tag on Juniper Street. The victim was then brought to the traffic stop where she positively identified the driver and the man with the pistol, which was recovered from the car. A total of 10 cell phones and three lap top computers were also found in the vehicle.

Arrested and charged with robbery were Xavier Carter, 21, and Jaquon Hampton, 23. Carter, the suspect who emerged from the trunk of the car, took officers to an area where the purse was recovered after it had been tossed from the vehicle.

According to Jones, another witness “came forward about another robbery committed by these two males."

Both suspects were transported to the Fulton County Jail.
