Two New Restaurants Coming to 12th & Midtown

Full-service Indian restaurant, Chutney, and Taco Diner, a traditional Mexico City-style taqueria, are slated to open in late summer 2013 at 77 12th Street.

12th & Midtown, the more than 3-million-square-foot master-planned mixed-use development in the heart of Midtown, will be adding two new restaurants next summer at 77 12th Street with the addition of Chutney, a full-service Indian restaurant with a decidedly upscale and modern twist, and Taco Diner, a traditional Mexico City-style taqueria.

77 12th, the third phase of the 12th & Midtown master plan, is a 23-story mixed-use tower consisting of 330 luxury one-and-two-bedroom apartment homes atop 20,000 square feet of retail space and restaurants.

The property's initial opening of the sixth through ninth floors is scheduled for May 2013 and the anticipated completion of remaining floors and clubhouse amenities by October 2013.

Chutney and Taco Diner will join the other dining options at 12th & Midtown, which include Cucina Asellina, eleven, Piloa, RA Sushi, Ri Ra Irish Pub and STK.

“Chutney and Taco Diner are both unique and exciting in concept and design.  Chutney’s contemporary approach to Indian cuisine and Taco Diner’s high-energy atmosphere will undoubtedly complement our many dining options at 12th & Midtown,” Shirley Gouffon, Senior Vice President of Selig Enterprises, co-developer of 12th & Midtown, said in a press release.

Conceived by the owners of The Palace, one of Atlanta’s most renowned Indian restaurants since 1998, Chutney’s mission is to redefine guests’ palates. Highlighted dishes include chicken, lamb, fish and shrimp skewers, flatbreads prepared with freshly baked Indian naan and chili crab.

“We are determined to redefine and spread the word about Indian cuisine while keeping our roots and culture intact,” owner-operator Sandeep Kothary said in the release. “Every dish on the Chutney menu will be made fresh to order using only the highest quality ingredients and spices. Adding to the perfection of the flavors in Chutney’s cuisine, the restaurant will feature a chic, boutique ambiance coupled with excellent tailored service.”

Taco Diner, the sister concept to M Crowd Restaurant Group’s Mi Cocina (scheduled to open November 2012 at 12th & Midtown) will showcase bold flavors with a lighter approach to Mexican fare, emphasizing fresh fish, salads and a full selection of classic tacos. Signature dishes from the Dallas-based concept will include the Los Cabos salad and Crispy Enchiladas.

“We are excited to be a part of the entire 12th & Midtown project and add to a great collection of restaurants in such a dynamic location,” Michael Cox, M Crowd Restaurant Group CEO, said in the release.
