Win Tickets to See Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Tell us why you want to see the swing band in concert at Chastain Park Amphitheater.

Chastain Park Amphitheater and Patch want to offer you and a guest a chance to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the contemporary swing revival band, in concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.

Called “America’s favorite little big band,” Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is best known for such singles as "Go Daddy-O," "You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby)" and "Mr. Pinstripe Suit."

Where did the band's name come from? Leader Scott Morris often explains that blues legend Albert Collins once signed a poster: "To Scotty, the big bad voodoo daddy."

To enter the contest, all you have to do is post a comment at the bottom of this article. Just tell us why you'd like to go to the show. We’ll conduct a random drawing from the entries on Aug. 15.

Winners will be emailed and can pick up their two tickets at Will Call the night of the concert. All winners will need to have a photo ID to claim the tickets.

Check out the Classic Chastain Concerts website for more details.

A final note: You must post your comment below by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, to be part of the ticket drawing.

Hey there Daddy O....... If you like toe tapping, get on your feet, make you feel good music then this is the ultimate. These guys are fantastic! They never miss a beat and hit every note precisiely. They get the audience participating either by singing along or dancing. Scotty, Alex Josh, Carl, Andy, Kurt and "the Kid" are pictured next to the word entertainment in the dictionary. I know for a fact that after this experience seeing them live your first words will be " WOW !" Get ready if you are going, it will be a night to remember. If I'm so lucky to win I'll be right in front leading the "Minnie the Moocher ".

Anytime I can hear and appreciate a big band I do so. It honors all the troops and volunteers from WWII in my mind.

Cause Chastain doesn't have WiFi, so I'll have to take a break from reading and posting about Yes City, No City, who's running, and whether Max Davis really hadn't given any thought to running for Mayer before August 1, 2012. :)

Gotta swing in a BBVD way, heading for Chastain to hear the tunes,
No Albert Collins in the ATL, so we'll have to just sing the blues!

Swing era music is one that only a few still listen to unfortunately. It is a music that shaped a time where war was all that anyone ever knew, where guys to take their best girls out for a night on the town, and people didn't look at you with disgust because of your music like they do now. People say that I was born in the wrong era and they are probably right but I really would love to win the tickets so I can listen to such an amazing band but also to imagine and experince the joy and struggles my family members lived through during those times.

Two swingin' memories stand out: Soon after marriage (now in its 35th year), my husband and I would visit a local hotel after work and dance the evening away to a local swing band. The gap between our ages and the other guests was enormous but we loved it. Back then, he could swing me between his legs! Several years later, we visited New Orleans. We spent a glorious night at the BOWLING ALLEY--dancing to the zoot suit sounds of The Iguanas. Listening now to BBVD and loving it!
