Yumbii to Launch Shipping Container Restaurant Concept in Midtown

Restaurant to be at 10th and Peachtree streets.

Yumbii, which sparked metro Atlanta's food truck craze, is going green with its latest concept: recycled shipping container restaurants.

The company plans to open its first such eatery at 10th and Peachtree streets, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Yumbii told the Business Chronicle it sees the concept expanding across the city in small or odd-shaped lots.

The idea melds well with the green movement mantra of reusing materials and making use of odd-shaped lots that otherwise might remain empty.

It already has already taken root in international hotspots including Paris, London and New York.

In Atlanta, Yumbii envisions seeing the idea as a “natural fit” for the Atlanta BeltLine, the Business Chronicle reported, because they're a better fit for odd-shaped lots.

Wait a second Dewberry Capital stated it was going to be a pocket park (an Midtown Alliance agreed), and now it is going to be a restaurant on step above a food truck?

What am I missing here?

Not to rehash it but the problem I see with this is that Dewberry (and to/from Midtown alliance) presented this as a pocket park. However that is not what it will be, it looks like it will be a miniscule open space with a restaurant.
I am willing to bet they are skirting all sorts of regulatory and licensing issues. Using a commercial space for unapproved uses just because there will be a small portion of open space promised doesn't suddenly change zoning requirements.

Unlike most cities we regulate the heck out of food trucks but are allowing a developer to do what they please on one of the premier corners of the city?

Hey- if that whole parking lot area became a shipping container district with pop-up boutiques, restaurants, and such it would be of better use than the even tackier parking lots that exist.

Right but they are as implied self contained. The ones I've gone to were either in preexisting commercial area paved areas or had a couple of seats attached. From the renderings on this one it will include a new seating area that looks semi-permanent..which defeats the whole concept of the eco friendliness of the concept.
This looks to me merely like a normal food-stand type restaurant with outdoor patio put into a space that wouldn't otherwise allow it with much more requirements. So what started out by Dewberry as looking like a nice gesture (pocket park for free), looks like merely a backdoor for a non-conforming commercial space.

Exactly aposter.

This whole food truck/container restaurant idea is just a way for purveyors to outfox the system and bypass zoning laws and regulations that 'real' restaurants face. I would be pissed if I were running a restaurant near one of these eyesore and saw them steal my business without having to jump through the hoops that I did.

The world has become too disposable.
