'Naked Chef' Stirs the Pot by Announcing Run for Mayor of Atlanta

Chef Paul Luna of Loca Luna fame is blunt about his message: "I'm Running for Mayor and Kasim Reed Can't Compete."

Chef Paul Luna is not one to mince words or beat around the subject. He has been an outspoken restaurateur and citizen in the City of Atlanta for years now, and recently decided to make the announcement loud and clear that he is running to be Atlanta's next mayor. Creative Loafing described his background like this: The Dominican-born Luna, who was once likened to a Navi tribesman from the movie Avatar by Atlanta magazine's Christiane Lauterbach, has been ruffling feathers here since he first came on the scene in the early '90s to open the upscale Italian restaurant Bice. In 1993, he opened Luna Si, followed by his iconic tapas restaurants Eclipse di Luna in '97 and Loca Luna in '99. The popular Loca Luna restaurant in Midtown was located …

Fulton Republicans Tap Norwood To Elections Board

Former Atlanta mayoral candidate appointed to help restore professional process controls and integrity within the Fulton County elections process.

In a news release Friday, the Fulton County Republican Party nominated Mary Norwood to its elections board. Norwood, whose support of LGBT issues was a serious aspect of her failed 2009 mayoral campaign, once sued the elections board in 2010 after it prevented her from appearing on the ballot for the Fulton County Commission chair seat after she missed the filing deadline by several hours. The claim was later tossed out by a Superior Court judge. Norwood has been a neighborhood and community activist for the better part of three decades and served on the Atlanta City Council from 2002-2008 before running for mayor. She received 46 percent of the vote on Election Day, but lost to Kasim Reed in a runoff. On the elections board, she would …
