The Center for Puppetry Arts Film Series showcases the art form of puppetry as it has been captured by camera. Featuring classic movies, hidden gems, and contemporary productions, it explores puppetry through narratives, documentaries, and short films.  Admission includes museum exhibits.  Cash bar available.

6/16:  The Muppets.  Directed by Frank Oz. Rated G.  1984. 94min. Comedy/Family/Musical.

7/7:  E.T.:  The Extra-Terrestrial.  Directed by Steven Spielberg.  Rated PG.  1982. 115min.  Adventure/Drama/Family.

8/25:  Dumbstruck.  Directed by Mark Goffman. Rated PG. 2011. 85min.  Documentary. 

9/22:  The World of Jim Henson.  Directed by Judy Kinberg.  Recommended for ages 12+. 1994.  85min.  THIS DOCUMENTARY IS FOR MEMBERS ONLY

11/17:  Best of XPT.  Curated by Michael Haverty, XPT Program Director.  Recommended for ages 16+.  2012.  60min.  From stopmotion to claymation, shadow to sock puppets, these 11 works represent some of the best short films from the Center’s Xperimental Puppetry Theater program.  The program will be followed by a talkback with some of the artists!

12/8:  A Fraggle Rock Holiday!  The Bells of Fraggle Rock and The Perfect Blue Rollie.  “The Bells of Fraggle Rock” directed by Doug Williams.  “The Perfect Blue Rollie” directed by Eric Till.  Recommended for ages 6+. 1984.  1986. 50min. 

2/9:  Puppet.  Directed by David Soll.  Ages 18+.  2010.  74min.  Documentary. 

3/16:  The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.  Directed by Gary Halvorson.  Rated G.  1999.  77min.  Adventure/Comedy/Family. 

4/27:  Hamdmade Puppet Dreams V.  Curated by Heather Henson, President of IBEX Puppetry.  Recommended for ages 14+.  2012. 90min.  Short Films.

5/11:  The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  Directed by Garth Jennings.  Rated PG.  2005.  109min.  Adventure/Comedy/Sci-Fi

The Center for Puppetry Arts in Midtown is the largest non-profit in the country that specializes in puppetry. The museum is open six days a week and CPA presents a variety of shows at different times throughout the month. The Center also features workshops, parties, field trips, a library and the opportunity for puppet enthusiasts to volunteer.
