Founded in 2008, the Atlanta Running Meetup are a community that promotes exercise for both walkers and runners, community, and friendship through this avenue.
"It's about as grassroots as it gets," says group member, John Rempel. "We are NOT interested in making this a money maker, or gathering
sponsors to make this a for profit endeavor. Exercise, community and
friendship is what we're about."
According to the Atlanta Running website, the majority of the runs take place in Piedmont Park. They meet at Caribou Coffee, located at the corner of 10th St. & Piedmont Ave., between 8:30am and
9:00am to socialize before the run. The group then leaves Caribou at 9:00 am and head to the park. The routes
are structured so that members can walk or run 2.5 or 5 miles, depending
on personal preference.
