Excelegrade Named Top Startup at the 6th Annual Startup Riot
Atlanta's Sixth Annual Startup Riot featured 30 outstanding local tech entrepreneurs, but at the end of the day, only three were selected as the event's winners.
Atlanta’s Tech & Startup Week continued yesterday with the highly anticipated 6th Annual Startup Riot at The Tabernacle, where Excelegrade, Ten Eight and Spensa Technologies were named Atlanta’s top startups from a select pool of 30 early stage companies.
Here's a breakdown of the winners:
- Founded by Harvard Business School graduates, first place winner Excelegrade makes K-12 classroom assessments digital by replacing paper-based tests and assignments with assessments on tablets, smart phones and laptops.
- In second place, Spensa Technologies designs, develops and delivers novel technologies for the agricultural industry that reduce reliance on manual labor, foster eco-friendly farming, and enhance crop production efficiency.
- In third place, Ten Eight is the first ever virtual and interactive tour booklet app that allows real estate brokers and their clients the ability to store floor plans and flyers, rate commercial properties, take pictures, take notes, and evaluate building options side by side.
“We’re thrilled that the judging panel and crowd of attendees selected Excelegrade as Startup Riot’s winner,” said Lauren Miller, co-founder of Excelegrade. “Our vision and hard work were validated today, and we’re confident that our prize package will give us the financial, operational and marketing edge we need in the marketplace.”

Excelegrade will receive a $5,000 cash investment, eleven 30-minute meetings with venture capitalists and $16,000 in professional services ranging from accounting to web design. Spensa Technologies and Ten Eight will also receive meetings with venture capitalists thousands of dollars in professional services.
