LLS Announces 2014 Atlanta Man & Woman of the Year Campaign & Nominating Committee

The Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is proud to announce the 2014 Atlanta Man & Woman of the Year campaign. In the Man & Woman of the Year campaign, candidates compete in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors: Boy & Girl of the Year. The men and women strive to achieve their personal best by working with their family, friends and contacts to raise as much money as possible for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The titles are awarded to the man and woman who raise the most funds in a ten-week period. The top fundraisers in the country win the national titles. Last year’s Atlanta Man & Woman of the Year award winners were Scott Thomas of Cartoon Network and Nancy Chambers of Lacoste/Devanlay.

The 2014 Atlanta Man & Woman of the Year Nominating Committee are currently recruiting the new class of candidates for the campaign. These men and women will be true Champions of Hope by raising much needed funds that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society uses to further its Mission of finding a cure for blood cancer and improving the quality of lives of patients and their families.

The 2014 Atlanta Man & Woman of the Year campaign and Nominating Committee is chaired by Cynthia Alford of Destination South and co-chaired by Heath Ponder of Apollo Endosurgery. Other committee members include:

“The Man & Woman of the Year program is a great way for candidates to network with other influential people in their communities while also providing assistance and hope to thousands of blood cancer patients,” said Piper Medcalf, Executive Director of the Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “Candidates showcase their fundraising and community outreach skills as well as their commitment to the cause.”

The Atlanta Man & Woman of the Year campaign will kick off on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at The Buckhead Theater and culminate at a Grand Finale Gala event on Saturday, June 14 at the Loews Midtown Hotel in Atlanta. The top candidates that raise the most funds will be announced at the Grand Finale Gala which will feature a silent and live auction, cocktail reception, dinner and entertainment.

There were approximately 4,070 new diagnoses for blood cancer in Georgia in 2012.
