Pink Chain- A Cancer Awareness Program Launched

The campaign called the “Pink Chain’’ was formally announced at a function held at Hotel Ashok on Monday evening by Union Minister for Science and Technology S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Culture Smt.Chandresh Kumari katoch, Actor Neetu Chandra & Swara Bhaskar and media baron Sandeep Marwah. It has been introduced to ensure that the younger generation is made aware about the social and preventive aspects of cancer (mainly breast, lung, oral and cervical) across India.

Dr. Abhishek Shankar, working in the Oncology Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences is the main coordinator for the campaign, said, “Pink Chain is supported by eminent oncologists from AIIMS, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and many more institutes. There will be lecture sessions on various aspects of cancer, with special emphasis on prevention and early detection by eminent oncologists, interactive session with students and screening and general health check up by an expert.’’

The program will cover 40 colleges of Delhi University and will reach out to 20,000 youth in order to educate them about the various aspects of cancer.
