Synchronicity Theatre to Open New In-Town Performance Hub

ATLANTA, GA — Synchronicity Theatre will move into a new permanent theatre venue this season at Peachtree Pointe in Midtown Atlanta.  The local nonprofit theatre has leased the theatre there (formerly known as Ansley Park Playhouse) after negotiations with Dewberry Capital.  Synchronicity will renovate and upgrade the theatre in August and open its 2014-2015 season on September 26th with the world premiere of Lasso of Truth.  This is the first permanent theatre space for Synchronicity in its sixteen-year history, and is supported in part by the Dewberry Foundation.

“Having our own home is a dream come true,” says Producing Artistic Director Rachel May, “For many years we’ve looked for the perfect time and the perfect location to put down roots.  Peachtree Pointe is a great spot – with a restaurant right next door and many amenities.”

Synchronicity Theatre’s new space will also provide a home for numerous performing arts organizations with no permanent venue.  Affordable rental spaces for performances and rehearsals have become increasingly limited in Atlanta since Dad’s Garage became a temporary resident at 7 Stages, Academy Theatre moved to Stockbridge, and the Woodruff Arts Center sold 14th Street Playhouse in January.  Having rented performance space itself at such venues up until this year, Synchronicity will now manage an affordable space for small arts companies, providing a solution to the rental quandary and a new, vibrant, multi-faceted hub for in-town performances.

As May put it, the sixteen-year-old theatre “will have a space that is uniquely Synchronicity, and can use our years of experience to create a vibrant center for innovative arts experiences from across the entire arts community.”

Park Krausen, Artistic Director of itinerant French language theatre company Théâtre du Rêve, expressed enthusiasm about Synchronicity’s new theatre, saying, “This city has a growing number of itinerant theater companies and fewer theater spaces....Affordable artist-driven performance, rehearsal and workshop spaces are a gift to our community!”
