Help Keep Midtown Green

Trees Atlanta organizes tree planting event.

Help keep the city green.

Trees Atlanta is organizing a tree planting event for the Midtown community on Jan. 21 at 9 a.m.

Volunteers have identified locations for the trees along streets such as Charles Allen Drive and 8th Street, according to volunteer and Midtown resident Jennifer Kjellgren.

"The trees are free," Kjellgren said in an email. "They can go in a front yard and in the area between the sidewalk and street -- if there is at least 18 inches. All the homeowners need to do is promise to water them once a week when we don't have rain."

Trees Atlanta also is looking for small, tax-deductible matching donations, she said, and volunteers to plant trees.
