Ansley Park Traffic Calming Project Moving Along

Greenspace is being created by replacing large areas of asphalt with well-landscaped islands of ground cover, walkways, and trees.

Sunny afternoons help the Ansley Park neighborhood traffic calming project move productively along these days.

Work, which began in August, has already been completed at The Prado and Westminster Drive entrances to the neighborhood along Piedmont Avenue. And construction crews were busy Tuesday afternoon working at the Avery Drive entrance, which is temporarily closed at Piedmont.

Up next is expected work at the South Prado entrance to the neighborhood, which as a whole is home to wide streets that are often used by speeding motorists as a cut-through from Piedmont to Peachtree Street.

So, have you noticed the changes and if so, what do you think?

Greenspace is being created by replacing large areas of asphalt with well-landscaped islands of ground cover, walkways, and trees. When completed, Ansley residents will hopefully find the streets to be more pedestrian friendly for walkers, joggers and bikers within the historic neighborhood’s curvilinear roads and intersections.

In 2000, the Ansley Park Civic Association (APCA) was awarded $2.8 million from the developers of the Atlantic Station mixed-use development for the purpose of constructing traffic calming enhancements to the neighborhood with the goals of vehicle speed reduction, improving pedestrian/bicycle mobility, and enhancing greenspace.

The APCA also received a $375,000 matching grant from the Georgia's Department of Transportation to be utilized for the Peachtree Circle portion of the project.
