Downed Tree Causes Power Outages in Midtown

Monday afternoon's heavy rains caused the diseased tree to tumble earthward.

Hundreds of Midtown homes and businesses were without power late Monday night after a tree snapped and fell on power lines, WSB-TV reports.

The tree, which was rotted from the inside, fell during a particularly heavy storm Monday afteroon and struck power lines at 11th Street near Juniper Street, which is near Piedmont Park.

WSB-TV reports that 336 homes and businesses have been affected by the power outage.

Delays in the arrival of equipment have pushed back estimates of a restoration of power from Monday evening to early Tuesday morning, work crews told the news station.
