Epiphany - Three Kings Day - Is Sunday

If you thought the Christmas holidays were long gone, well, you were wrong.

The Epiphany - the 12th Day of Christmas – is Jan. 6. That is the day that the Three Kings, also known as the Magi, met the baby Jesus and delivered their gifts.

It commemorates the visitation of the wise men (Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazzar) to the son of God born as a man, the star leading the Magi to him, Christ's baptism in the Jordan, and the first miracle at Cana.

It's the second-oldest Christian feast day after Easter. Also known as 'Little Christmas,' the Feast of the Epiphany is a day of religious observance for many Christians around the world.

The Atlanta History Center, located 130 West Paces Ferry Road in nearby Buckhead, will be hosting a Three Kings Day fun and educational event today in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate and the Instituto de Mexico. It’s from 1-5 p.m., and free to the public, but space is limited and it does not include museum admission.

Across the globe, many people leave their Christmas tree up until the Feast of the Epiphany. Is your tree still up? And if it is, do you know what’s the best thing to do with it?

From now until Jan. 12, bring your old Christmas trees to The Home Depot in Midtown at 650 Ponce de Leon Avenue to be recycled. The Home Depot location in Buckhead at 2525 Piedmont Road will also accept Christmas trees.

The recycled trees can be used for mulch, fuel, fish habitats and more. The mulch from these trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and in individual yards.
