News Nearby: First Off-Leash Dog Park in O4W Opens Saturday

OLD FOURTH WARD — Atlanta unveils a new dog park this Saturday a few blocks south of Midtown that will be the first off-leash dog park in the Old Fourth Ward.

Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall will join the City of Atlanta Parks Department, Park Pride, the Fourth Ward West neighborhood association, and Friends of Central & Renaissance Parks for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Renaissance Park Dog Park.

Located two blocks south of North Avenue and constructed along Piedmont Avenue and Renaissance Parkway, the Renaissance Park Dog Park will have separate small and large dog areas with secure entries.

The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. and all are invited to bring their dogs. There will be special doggie treats, giveaways, a photo booth and overall good fun. 

For the humans, there will be hot beverages (coffee, tea and cocoa) and breakfast biscuits from Sweet Auburn Bread Company.

Renaissance Park, which is at 501 Piedmont Ave. and features a a five-acre tree covered canopy, with paths and a shaded hilltop, and nearby Central park, are owned and maintained by the city of Atlanta, and supported by local neighborhood volunteers such as Friends of Central Park and Renaissance Park.

In cooperation with Mayor Kasim Reed’s Love Your Block initiative, Councilman Hall’s Year of Boulevard campaign, and the city of Atlanta’s non-profit partner organization Park Pride, Friends of Central Park and Renaissance Park volunteer to promote and beautify these green spaces.

Fourth Ward West (formerly Central Atlanta Neighbors) is one of the four neighborhood associations in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. Its boundaries are North: North Avenue; South: Baker Highland Connector; East: Boulevard; West: Peachtree Street.

They state on their Facebook page that the organization “promotes diversity to create a safe and inviting community. We embrace all in our neighborhood.”

The event is rain or shine so come out and let the dogs run free!
