"Our concerns have never been about substation aesthetics," wrote Georgia Tech graduate student and Home Park renter Andy McBurney on a neighborhood message board. "Our concerns have been about land use -- how the lot on 14th and Atlantic will function."

Landscape architect Peter Drey, who designed the 14th Street bridge, collaborated with Smithdalia Architects on the master plan for the substation.

During a meeting last week, the Home Park land use committee was given a preview of the master plan. Land use chair Eric Jones said "it's not what we wanted for use," but Drey and his team did "an excellent job in putting together a design that benefits the community."
