Injured Midtown Dog Needs Help

Three-legged rescue dog was hit by a motorist late last month

The owner and friends of a dog recently hit by a car in Midtown are seeking the canine-loving public’s assistance with mounting medical bills.

On June 23, Jonathan Turner’s mix-breed rescue, “Mini,” was hit by a motorist near the intersection of Myrtle and 8th streets.

Mini, already maneuvering through life on just three legs, was diagnosed by VCA Pets Are People Too Veterinary Hospital in the Ansley Square Shopping Center with a comminuted fracture, several cuts, lesions, and a quarter size hole in her thigh/groin area that went to the muscle underneath.

Later at Georgia Veterinary Specialists, surgery performed revealed an ACL tear that will call for another surgery in three to six months to correct. As most pet owners know, repeated trips to the vet, especially when orthopedic surgery is involved, can be quite expensive and that’s the case here.

Hence, a fundraising website has been created to help with Mini’s medical bills. The goal is to raise $5,000 and as of July 5, almost $750 had been contributed. Wrote one donor, "While I've only met Mini once, her excitement for life will always have a place in my heart!"

A West Midtown resident, Turner said Mini is a Hurricane Katrina rescue who is approximately 7 years old. Despite having only three legs, “she has led a great life; she gets along with other dogs well and loves other animals including cats,” Turner said.
