Midtown Patch brings safety hazard to the attention of the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works

Less than a week ago, Midtown Patch posted a photo of an ill-fitted top to a water pipe on Ponce de Leon Avenue.

It extended upward from the road almost two inches causing motorists to swerve dangerously in order to miss it.

Those that would make contact would definitely be in risk of a blown tire, and some of you told us that indeed you had absorbed a flat tire running over this obstruction.

Midtown Patch reached out to the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works to see if something could be done about it. And as you can tell by the pictures, it has been fixed.

The safety hazard was in the far right lane of the three westbound lanes on Ponce between the and the Goodyear Midtown Tire business located at 411 Ponce de Leon Ave. When traffic was light, motorists simply maneuvered out of the lane to avoid it.

However when traffic was heavy in all three lanes, as it gets when cars are stopped at the light at Ponce and Charles Allen Drive just before the hazard, motorists in the far right lane often swerved to avoid the pipe top, coming dangerously close to making contact with vehicles in the middle lane.

But not anymore.

If you see other road safety hazards around Midtown, let us know and we'll look into it.
