Midtown Church to Tear Down Burned Building

St. Mark United Methodist Church recently launched its 2012 Capital Campaign to raise money for the demolition of the former Midtown Atlanta Wellness Center and subsequent grading of the land.

Midtown’s SPI-16 & SPI-17 Development Review Committee will conduct its monthly meeting Tuesday at 5 p.m. at 999 Peachtree Street in the 5th Floor Conference Center.

In addition to Novare Group presenting revised plans for its proposed 23-story 320-unit luxury “100 6th Street” apartment community, three new applications will be heard by the DRC.

, located at 1302 West Peachtree Street, has plans for exterior renovations to create two permanent terrace areas at the northern and southern corners of the property along the eastern face of the building.

Near the at the Promenade building, located on 15th Street at the intersection of 15th and Arts Center Way, there are hardscaping and landscaping plans to make it more pedestrian friendly.

And St. Mark United Methodist Church has plans to demolish a dilapidated building located at the rear of the church, which is located at 781 Peachtree Street. The building, the former Midtown Atlanta Wellness Center, is located at 117 5th Street and suffered fire damage in January 2011.

According to Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Beth LaRocca-Pitts, the church bought the building several months following the fire.

“It’s an eyesore and it’s unsafe,” LaRocca-Pitts told Patch. “We’re anticipating building there and expanding our campus in five to 10 years. In the meantime it could become a green space where kids could play.”

The church recently launched its 2012 Capital Campaign to raise money for the demolition of the building and subsequent grading of the land.

Midtown Atlanta Welness Center, which provides a wide range of services including colon hydrotherapy, massage therapy, and sound therapy, is now located at 814 Juniper Street.
