Midtown is a Movie Mecca

Midtown Atlanta is quickly becoming film and television producers' favorite place to shoot.

Midtown might as well be renamed Movie Mecca.

Over the past year, Midtown has played host to a variety of movies and television shows including the Farrelly Brothers’ retooled The Three Stooges, MTV’s Teen Wolf, film Hall Pass, and more recently USA Network’s Necessary Roughness and feature film What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

What to Expect, a Lionsgate film, has spent much of August shooting in various locations around including the meadow, active oval and the bike trail the surrounds the park.

The film that stars , Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz (no stranger to Atlanta at this point) and Anna Kendrick is based loosely on the popular pregnancy manual “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” The movie features four couples who are all expecting children and how they deal with the upcoming additions to their families. It is slated to be released May 11, 2012.

Production crews for the movie began filming in Atlanta earlier this summer and plan to wrap later this fall.

Necessary Roughness has taken Atlanta by storm. The television series features Callie Thorne as a psychotherapist to the stars.

Most of the shooting has taken place in the Georgia Dome for scenes involving her football player clientele, and at a set in East Atlanta. Last week the show was on the move in Midtown, shooting scenes at  off Crescent Avenue.
