Midtown Recap: DRC Revisits Symphony Site Proposal

The Midtown Development Review Committee met this past week to finalize recommendations for two mixed-use projects, 98 14th Street and 60 11th Street.

From the Midtown Alliance Newsletter

The Midtown Development Review Committee (DRC) met on April 2nd to finalize recommendations for two mixed-use projects, 98 14th Street and 60 11th Street. They also reviewed a new application for the renovation and addition to Stonehurst Place at 923 Piedmont Ave.

98 14th Street update
Olympia Heights Management returned to the DRC yesterday, following up on its initial review last month of their proposed $650 million mixed use project on the former symphony site. The first phase of this three-tower development is projected to break ground in 2015.  When completed, the project will add 1,350 apartments, 270 hotel rooms, and 92,000 SF of retail space to Midtown. The Midtown DRC has recommended conditional approval and anticipates approval by the City if conditions to resolve access and road connectivity issues are met. This decision is in line with the conditional approvals granted by both the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) and ARC’s Developments of Regional Impact (DRI) review process.

60 11th Street
This week wraps up the review process of the 60 11th Street, a residential mixed-use project that first came to the DRC in March. The proposed development is the next phase of 12th & Midtown, developed in partnership by Selig Enterprises and Daniel Corp. The applicant worked collaboratively to address issues raised during the March DRC meeting and the project was approved yesterday by the DRC.

923 Piedmont Avenue
Stonehurst Place, a bed and breakfast inn, is proposing a renovation and addition to an existing guest cottage. The project would rehabilitate one of two 1940’s cottages on the property and expand it to provide two additional guest rooms. The DRC has recommended approval conditional upon confirmation by the Bureau of Buildings that the project meets building code requirements.

The next meeting will take place at 999 Peachtree Street in the 5th Floor Conference Center on Tuesday, May 13th at 5:30 p.m.
