Midtown Gas Line Break Causes Street Closures

A broken gas line late Saturday night shut down several Midtown streets until Sunday afternoon.

A crew working on a sewer line on Piedmont Avenue near the Piedmont Driving Club accidentally hit the gas line Saturday evening.

Several residents near the Prado off Piedmont Avenue reported to Patch that repair crews began working on the leak shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday.

Repeated messages left by Patch with Atlanta Gas Light Company officials on Sunday for an update on the situation were not returned.

According to Channel 2 Action News, crews cut off the gas “from both ends of the punctured six-inch main” as part of the repair. No one was injured and it is not known how many residents were left without gas.
